Why liberals don't care about marriage... (under pretty much ANY definition...) |

LA Times bloggers directed NOT to report on it... Independent news sources confirm... The truly most hysterical understanding of the events when reporters and photographers attempted to get Edwards to comment on why he was exiting his amore's love nest came from the most ferocious queen in LA. A thought comes to mind... "The steps of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord..." (Which then likely means if you are following Him you won't find yourself hiding out in a hotel bathroom trying with all your might to keep photographers out...) As anyone who has read this blog for any length of time I do hold particular distaste for the behavior of adultery. It's slimy, it puts your family, reputation, and future at risk - NEEDLESSLY. What makes Edwards' case so worthy of Jesse Jackson's special 'Obama treatment' is the idea that his wife has been battling cancer. And to add insult even more so to injury is that your humble correspondent thought it so highly inappropriate for the "slip and fall" specialist to force his presidential run upon his cancer stricken wife... when everyone that's every had a relative die of cancer knows - reduced stress, much moral support, and positive enthusiasm are some of the most important keys to remission... Is John Edwards the Kind of Man Every Man SHOULD Be?

A few days ago, the IRS has released data showing the percentage of income taxes paid by Americans. Courtesy of the National Taxpayers Union, the table below shows, the top 10% of filers paid nearly 71% of all income taxes paid. The share paid by the bottom 50% drops from 3.07% in 2005 to 2.99% in 2006. You can see previous years here. You can also see "who doesn't pay taxes" here.

Rick Warren: "King-maker!" |
|
Posted by:
Kevin McCullough at
11:40 AM |
 "I'm the man!"
"The primaries proved that Americans care deeply about the faith, values, character and leadership convictions of candidates as much as they do about the issues. While I know both men as friends and they recognize I will be frank, but fair, they also know I will be raising questions in these four areas beyond what political reporters typically ask. This includes pressing issues that are bridging divides in our nation, such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, climate and human rights."
Now - I'm not sure what Warren believes he is referring to in the "four areas beyond what political reporters typically ask" but I will tell you that the four things he's listed do not qualify. Primarily because these are four of the MOST OFTEN asked about "areas."
And is Rick Warren seriously going to discuss 'Global Warming' - despite the fact that 2008 has been a wrecking ball from the science community to the theory that Al Gore enriched himself off of? Seriously? More than 50,000 climatologists, meteorologists, and earth scientists - not to mention prominent, classroom isolated, academic science types ALL now refuting the key components to the overly hyped theory? So overly hyped now that the British public school system is not allowed to show the Gore film without disclaiming as entirely propaganda? What does this have to do with a "faith and values" conference?
Warren has also consistently NEVER spared the opportunity to allow Obama to preach his Gospel of Condoms, and to date he's also not disputed it.
But has Warren seen the PEPFAR legislation (emergency aid to Africa for aids relief) that the Congress these two Senators belong to have been working on in recent weeks? Does he know about the abortive language fight that ensued over the 'Global Fund' using U.S. dollars from our emergency HIV/AIDS aid to perform mandated abortions?
Will Warren allow groups like Compassion International to share the stage this year and speak about the work they are actually doing in the pandemic regions of Africa, bringing children HIV/AIDS cocktail meds AND the gospel of Jesus Christ - as opposed to the gospel of prophylactics?
What this conference really does is allow Rick Warren another notch in the belt of his "reach, influence, and power." Something he has become accustomed to with no measurable, tangible results to show for all the money spent in holding this annual soiree'.

The Budget Outlook |

Yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), released its Monthly Budget Review, and not to my surprise it stated “The federal government incurred a deficit of $268 billion for the first nine months of fiscal year 2008, CBO estimates, $148 billion more than the shortfall recorded during the same period in 2007.” CBO also estimates that about $79 billion of that change is a direct result of the Economic Stimulus Act that passed the House at the beginning of this year. We are now seeing the direct effect from reckless spending without reductions elsewhere. I have said it before and I will say it now, both Republicans and Democrats need to understand that if we continue on our current course we are on a collision course for the highest debt in American history.

This past week in Congress, we considered a bill that that would try to sue our way to lower gas prices as well as another bill to create subsidies for only federal employees to take public transportation to work. All I can say is are you kidding me? The cartoon below has a greater meaning after this week.

An AP article that was published yesterday, says a lot about the pervasive spending and earmarking culture that exists here in Washington D.C. Frank Cushing, former Staff Director for the House Committee on Appropriations under Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-CA), and now a lobbyist for the National Group stated in the article, "I know a bunch of members that if you go in to see them, somewhere in the conversation they somehow say, 'Well, we were looking through our list of campaign contributors and didn't happen to see you there…is there a quid pro quo? No, not directly, but you'd have to be pretty dense not to figure it out." Another lobbyist who declined to be identified said: "You can ask any lobbyist in town. You bring a new client in to see a member and everything is nice-nice and you have a good meeting and everybody's exchanging business cards, within 48 hours, the clients and their lobbyist - me - will get a fundraising phone call." Obviously, this is a bi-partisan problem, but this sort of devil may care attitude is ridiculous and needs to stop. Taxpayers are sick and tired of this subversive and counterproductive brand of politics.

Gas is approaching $5 a gallon, we have nearly a half trillion dollar deficit, unemployment has risen to 5.5%, and we just voted on whether or not to celebrate the end of the Revolutionary War.
I don't think any further comment is needed.

Return on Investment? |

Recently, the Contra Costa Times in California published an article about Chairman of the Committee on Education and Labor, and judging by the title, Rep. George Miller Delivers Millions For Campaign Contributor, you can be sure he was none to happy having his exploits exposed.
The article draws attention to a relationship between Mr. Miller and defense contractor SecuriMetrics, Inc, which is located in his district. The article goes on to detail the $4.6 million in federal funding Miller has managed to secure for the company.
Furthermore, Since 2004, Mr. Miller who is a staunch opponent of the war on terror, has also received & accepted over $16,090 in campaign contributions from current and past executives of SecuriMetrics. Meanwhile, he continued to acquire earmarks for SecuriMetrics. I think you can draw your own conclusion.
Moreover, this money is being used for product development; I bet you didn’t know the money coming out of your paychecks would be going towards SecuriMetrics product development division…George Miller has seen a return on investment...have you?
Sadly, this story has become par for the course in Congress. It is ridiculous that Members of Congress can send taxpayer dollars to their districts in exchange for lucrative campaign contributions. Despite what some of my colleagues may believe, they are not money machines and I am intent on putting this practice to an end.

Behavior can save your life! The World Health Organization has finally done it. They've gone and told the truth about the extent of the AIDS/HIV world "pandemic." The news is - that outside of sub-Saharan Africa where tribal myths are taught that in order to rid oneself of the virus you must rape a virgin - outside of THAT - there IS no pandemic of HIV for people who behave as God intended when it comes to sexual expression.
Of course we've known this for 20 years, and why the WHO is just now copping to it seems strange to me.
The sad part of the new WHO report is that even though the price in HIV-retroviral drugs have gotten so inexpensive - some as little as .89 per dose that those children in Africa who have been raped - still aren't getting the drugs they need.
That's one of the reasons why the Lovely Bride and I support Compassion International - and one of the children we sponsor is an HIV designee...
